Alpine hut Oberholz – Alpine Atmosphere at Its Finest
Located at 2096 meters, the Oberholz Hut stands as an architectural and culinary highlight in the Latemar Dolomites ski and hiking area. Opened in 2016, it blends modern architecture with a strong connection to nature. The kitchen uses locally sourced ingredients, while the use of larch wood on the exterior and Eggental fir wood on the interior reflects a sustainable building approach. The hut is environmentally heated with geothermal energy. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Central Alps, whether through the large hut windows or from the panoramic terrace.

Eco-Design: Contemporary Architecture in Harmony with Nature
Architects Peter Pichler and Pavol Mikolajcak have created a unique architectural project with the Alpine hut Oberholz. The building seamlessly blends into its surroundings, featuring three large windows oriented towards different mountain ranges. The expansive glass façade merges through curved lines into a compact structure inside, where smaller, cozy niches divide the restaurant area, creating an inviting atmosphere. The exterior design evokes the image of a fallen tree, with its branches extending from the hillside.
Sustainable Energy at the Oberholz Hut
The Alpine hut Oberholz is heated exclusively with geothermal energy – without the use of heating oil or gas. Additionally, the kitchen and lighting are powered by green electricity from hydropower. The use of renewable energy sources like geothermal and hydropower contributes actively to climate protection, making the hut’s operations sustainable and energy-efficient.
